Biography:

A very stern-looking picture of Matthew in Vienna

Matthew Ryan Oglesby, was born in Blackburn on 7 April 1987. He first entered the music scene at the age of eight, when he started cornet lessons with Don Gates at Blackburn School of Music, and simultaneously joined the Boys' choir at Blackburn Cathedral, under the direction Gordon Stewart. As he worked through his education he studied Piano with Lee Harding and Sandy Holland, and trumpet with Mike Leeson and Mike Woodhead. He gained valuable musical experience with ensembles including Blackburn With Darwen Brass Band and Big Band, and when he moved on to the other choirs of Blackburn Cathedral (Mens, Young People's Choir, Renaissance Singers).

Matthew spent his A Level years at Runshaw College in Leyland with Sally Macgregor, gained three As in Music, Music Technology and English Literature, and is now reading a bachelor's degree in Music at the University of Leeds. He sings with the Music Society choirs and with Leeds Cathedral Choir under Ben Saunders, and conducts the LUUMS Chamber Choir.

The composition aspect of Matthew's musical career started at Blackburn Cathedral, where he worked with Richard Tanner and (then) organist Greg Morris to develop a style and technique. Matthew writes music whenever possible, and in any medium, as you'll see from the online portfolio.

Matthew is an advocate of Sibelius score-engraving software, but mostly uses manuscript to sketch out ideas. Other software he uses includes Cubase, Pro Tools, Audition and occasionally Reason.
